Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation £33

I had been wanting to try this foundation for absolutely ages yet never got round to purchasing it, just over a month ago I finally went for it and was so excited to try it. It is probably the most expensive foundation I've ever bought but I had only heard positive reviews so I thought it was worth the money. I am NC20 at Mac and I bought the shade Rose Ivory, the shade range is okay but there aren't many shades for much darker skin tones which is disappointing. I don't really live near a Laura Mercier counter so I used Findation, I've used this quite a few times, all you do is input the foundations you've tried and the shade you are in it and the website will match you with other foundations! It has worked perfectly for me! When I bought this, I used it for about four days and I have to admit that I hated it, literally despised it. I couldn't get it to work on my skin, it looked dry, I tried so many different ways of applying it but couldn't get it to work! I left it for about three weeks before I decided to read some blog posts on it and began trying to use it again. The one piece of advice I would give is to apply the TINIEST amount and I mean the tiniest! With my YSL Touche Eclat Foundation I am so used to using quite a lot so when I first started using this, I was applying waaay too much and it sort of just sat on top of the skin and accentuated dry patches! But since applying less of the product I can see what others were raving about, I still find it hard to apply only a tiny amount but it's so much better to apply too little and build it up than to apply loads and look awful!

I don't think I would recommend this for very dry skins as the consistency is similar to the Mac Studio Sculpt Foundation, very very thick so it does take quite a lot of buffing it into the skin. It is described as a "rich and luminous foundation offering full coverage while hydrating and protecting the skin." I wouldn't agree with the claim that it is "luminous" as I find it matte on my skin and on many other reviews bloggers mentioned that they often didn't need to powder because of how matte it was. I would say it is a medium coverage foundation but could be built up to full coverage. They also say it is a "long-wearing foundation that evens out skin tones and increases skin luminosity and clarity for a radiant glow." Again, I don't agree with the "radiant glow" but I would agree that it is long wearing and it really does even out the skin tone, it covers a lot more than the YSL Touche Eclat Foundation and the YSL Youth Liberator Foundation. I have quite bad acne scarring at the moment and although I do still need concealer, I don't need as much as I do with other foundations!

To apply it, I use the Sephora Mineral Powder Brush but I think the Real Techniques Buffing Brush would work perfectly too, I also think a beauty blender sponge (or any alternative) would work great too!
The packaging is really practical, especially if you're like me and tend to drop things! It's a simple squeezy tube so it's easy to get product out of and to travel with, you get 35ml of product so you get 5ml more than most foundations which is a plus! I definitely think this foundation will last ages as you will only use the smallest amount. I'm so glad I decided to give it another shot as I have worn it everyday since, the finish is lovely and the coverage is perfect for me, if you're more of a BB cream/tinted moisturiser person then maybe give this a miss (or try the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser!) as it does cover a lot but it is a really great foundation that I can rely on daily, especially when I'm having a bad skin day!

Have you tried this foundation?

  4. Your photos look gorgeous. Great review, I agree it isn't really 'luminous' or 'radiant' but I like to mix it in with moisturiser to make it a bit more glowy if I fancy it. xx
