Perfect Party Hair: Nicky Clarke SuperShine Curling Tong

I don't think there is any hairstyle more appropriate for a festive party than beautiful loose curls. I have been trialing the Nicky Clarke SuperShine Curling Tong recently and think it is perfect for the Christmas season and all the parties! A few months ago I posted my thoughts on the SuperShine Straighter which you can read here, I really loved how shiny they made my hair look so I was super excited to try the curling version! Like the straightener, this curling tong has the built in water reservoir in order to keep your hair hydrated. You simply have to fill this up with a little bit of water and it will stop your hair feeling dry and damaged over the festive period! The one thing I love about this curler is the clamp, rather than having to wrap the hair around the tong, I start at the bottom of my hair, clamp it in and then roll it towards the top of my head. I have a tendency to burn myself quite frequently when curling my hair so having the clamp and being able to roll it up my hair without having to use my hands definitely reduces injuries! Like the straightener, there are five heat settings. This means you can adjust the heat of the straightener depending on the thickness of your hair, I have pretty thick hair so I use heat setting number four! The barrel on this is 25mm which works well to create glamorous loose curls, personally I think it's the perfect size for my hair as it creates curls which can either look super glamorous or be styled in order to look more tousled.

Urban Decay Vice Lipstick Palette: The Perfect Christmas Gift

I think when I received this palette in the post, it was the most excited I had been about a product, ever! I adore Urban Decay products, their eyeshadow palettes are always on my dressing table and their Naked Concealer is a firm favourite in my makeup bag so I was so excited to try out this palette. I haven't tried any of the Urban Decay lip products before so I didn't know what to expect of the consistency or colour pay off. The lipsticks are probably the creamiest of any I have tried, they are soft and apply so easily to my lips without drying them. My lips feel moisturised and nourished, almost like a lip balm rather than a lipstick but the colour pay off is what you would expect from a lipstick. As the consistency is creamy, they take a little bit longer to apply than a more firm and matte lipstick but for me this isn't much of an issue as I much prefer a moisturising lip.

The shades are all really pigmented, the shade 'Vanished' took longer to get much colour pay off but it is a pale nude so that's expected. The red tones like 'EZ' and '714' are absolutely beautiful shades and there are no pigmentation issues at all with these, it so lovely to wear a red lip which is comfortable and not tight or drying on the lips. This palette is super handy, if you're traveling it means you don't need a giant makeup bag for 12 different shades of lipstick, instead you get one palette full of 12 completely different shades. You can wear a nude, a bright and bold red, a deep plum purple or even a glittery pink shade. The palette also comes with a mini lip brush, I usually don't use brushes that come with palettes however the Urban Decay ones in the Eyeshadow Palettes and in this palette are really good quality and this definitely came in useful when applying the red shade in order to get clean and crisp lines. I think this would be the perfect Christmas gift for any beauty junkie!

Beautiful Lashes from

I've always been a fan of false eyelashes, I have really straight lashes so I always like to add some curl to them using falsies. I was asked by False Eyelashes if I wanted to try out some of their lashes so I immediately said yes! I wanted to pick a natural pair that I could wear everyday and then a slightly more dramatic pair for days I wanted a little more definition. For the natural pair, I went with the Kiss Chic Lashes. These just add a little bit more length to my lashes, I love how natural these are, they could definitely be worn as an everyday false lash as they don't look really obvious on the eyes. For the more dramatic pair, I chose the Fleek Lashes in the India design. These are a lot more feathery but I still think they're quite natural looking so I could definitely get away with wearing these as an everyday pair as well. The India pair are my favourite, I love the more feathery look as they look super pretty and I love how they look with winged eyeliner. False Eyelashes offer free first delivery on all UK orders, who doesn't love free delivery? False Eyelashes stock over 1,000 styles of false lashes from over 25 different brands, I will definitely be purchasing some lashes from House of Lashes as I've wanted to try those for ages! They have so many affordable lashes like Eye Candy lashes from £1.99 so there's definitely lashes for everyone!

Current Everyday Makeup

I always love writing these kinds of posts and discussing the products I am using on a daily basis. After hearing so many great things about the Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation, I decided to check it out. I will have a full review up on this soon, the one thing I don't like is the shade range, I am the shade 0.5 and it is still pretty dark for me which means those with super pale skin have no chance! However I love how good the coverage is and how long it lasts so if you can find a shade match, then I would recommend it! My concealer of choice at the moment is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer, this is in the lightest shade so it's great for brightening the under eye area. To set my makeup, I use the Soap and Glory 'One Heck of a Blot' which is great for keeping my face makeup in place all day. To highlight, I use my absolute favourite product, The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in the shade Pearl. This looks quite light in the pan but it gives you the perfect glow to make you look more radiant. Then to add some colour to my cheeks I use my Becca Blushed with Light Palette, generally I've been using the shade Wisteria as it's a great everyday blush pink

I recently bought the Kevyn Aucoin Precision Brow Pencil, I really love the shade of this as I usually struggle to find a product which matches my fair brows. The pencil is very fine so it works well to mimic real brow hairs with it. On my eyes, I've been doing a really simple look at the moment. I apply Mac Groundwork Paintpot all over my lid and then just blend the NYX Single Eyeshadow in the shade 'Happy Hour' into the crease. I've been trying out the NYX Doll Eye Mascara recently, this won't be one I will repurchase as I just didn't feel like it did much for my lashes!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics - Lip Tar Primer £15
Wet Brush £11.99
Nuxe - Creme Prodigieuse £21
High Definition - Brow Definer in Vamp £18
Darphin - Rose Aromatic Care £45

This month's Birchbox is in collaboration with Tatler Magazine and I absolutely love the design of the box this month, it's so beautiful! Tatler curated this edit of products which includes two makeup products. I was super excited to find the full size Wet Brush in this month's box, we all know I love my Tangle Teaser and so I have been loving this to use on my hair when it's wet so I don't break or damage my hair. It's also really gentle! Receiving a full size High Definition Brow Pencil was also super exciting, the shade of this was too dark for me but I think my Mum will get a lot of use out of it so I've given it to her! I have tried the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar's before, however this one is slightly different. It's a lip primer so keeps your lipstick in place all day and preps your lips before you apply your products!

Current Favourites

The past month or so has been about discovering new products but also rediscovering old favourites. I had purchased the Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Coverage Foundation quite a while ago and it had been a long time since I had used it, after rummaging through my makeup drawer I decided to give it a go again. This is definitely full coverage and it is the best foundation I've used in terms of covering everything. A little goes a long way with this so you definitely don't need to apply a lot to get a flawless finish. I've been really loving it for achieving a perfect base that hides all flaws but doesn't look like a mask, the name might scare people and I know many use it for covering tattoos but it's not heavy on the skin at all. Another old favourite of mine made a reappearance this month, Mac Groundwork Paintpot. A favourite makeup look of mine is applying this over the lid and then just blending out a matte brown shade through the crease, this creates the perfect base for a smokey brown eye and I love the smooth and soft consistency which makes it easy to apply. While I was in Space NK, which seems to be happening a lot lately, I decided I wanted to try a new brow product. I remembered asking a girl working there what she used on her brows a few months ago as they looked incredible and she said she only wore Kevyn Aucoin products. I decided to pick up their Precision Brow Pencil as I prefer products where I can mimic eyebrow hairs and make my brows look as natural as possible. This brow pencil is by far the best one in terms of shade, if you're fair like me this is the perfect shade. It's not too dark, too ashy or too red, it's the perfect match for my hair colour.

I recently purchased another NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream, I'm not sure how many of these I need but they just keep ending up in my shopping basket! I bought the shade Cairo which is a pretty nude shade, it is fairly light so I've been loving applying both Cairo and London to my lips to create the perfect mix of both of them. My final favourite is the Becca Blushed with Light Palette, again while in Space NK (there seems to be a recurring theme here...) I was looking at their Christmas products and collections (which are amazing by the way!) when I spotted this palette. Recently I've been wearing a lot more blushers and loved the shades in this palette, particularly the shade 'Wisteria.' It's such a pretty and handy palette and I love all three shades so will definitely get a lot of use out of this palette!

Number 4 Fluoro5 Restore & Repair Oil £18

This month's Birchbox includes personalised boxes depending on your star sign, they're also glow in the dark boxes! I was super excited when I opened October's box and found a sample of the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, I have wanted to try this product for ages as I love these sort of things. It's perfect for creating volume in your hair and making it look slightly messier. I also really loved trying out the Lord & Perry Lipstick, this is a perfect everyday lip shade and I loved the consistency of this on my lips, it's matte but it doesn't feel drying. Another favourite from the box is the Doux Me Pure Spring Mist, this is really refreshing and perfect for spraying onto your face before moisturising.

Giorgio Armani Lip Magnets

L-R Fusion, Second-Skin, Eccentrico, Heat, Fil Rouge, Tangerine
Swatches - Second-Skin & Eccentrico

I was so excited when I received these new Giorgio Armani Lip Magnets in the post, I love liquid lipsticks so I couldn't wait to try them out. They come in 18 different shades so there is definitely a colour to suit everyone, I received six shades to try and they are all super pretty. The Lip Magnets dry to a matte finish which tends to be my favourite finish for lipsticks and liquid lipsticks as I find they stay put longer throughout the day and don't smudge. Armani claim the lipsticks have a "no-migration magnet effect" with an "extremely fine texture and unparalleled feeling of weightlessness." I can confirm that these claims are true, they stay put on my lips and don't smudge or fade at all. They are so much thinner in consistency than other products such as the Gerard Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks which I really like as they feel super lightweight and almost like I'm not wearing anything on my lips. As they're so thin, they also don't feel sticky or like they're drying my lips out which many liquid lipsticks can do, they feel comfortable to wear and I don't feel like I'm aware that I'm wearing anything throughout the day. In terms of the packaging, I love how you can see exactly which shade is which and I think the vibrant red lid makes them stand out. The uniquely shaped applicator is so handy and makes it really easy to apply the product, it allows for a perfect application which is also really quick. The applicator fits perfectly into the shape of my lips and makes it so easy to apply the product in difficult areas such as the cupid's bow! I love every single shade I received, the red shades are vibrant and classic, Eccentrico is such a bright and beautiful shade and Fusion and Second Skin are wonderful every day shades.

Overall, I have been loving testing these liquid lipsticks out. If you want a natural feeling lipstick that doesn't feel heavy or uncomfortable on the lips then this is perfect. Their range of shades mean that if you like more natural shades or even if you're a bright red kind of girl, then there really is a shade for everyone! You can have a browse through their other shades here!

Creating the perfect brow...with soap?

I'm sure you will have seen or heard the talk about 'soap brows' recently. If you haven't, I'm going to talk through my thoughts about the process since I started doing it around three weeks ago. This isn't something I created myself so check out this Pixiwoo video as I believe this is what started the trend, this Desi Perkins video is also super helpful if you prefer seeing tutorials. This method is incredible for any kind of brow, I would honestly recommend anyone do it. It's brilliant for me as I have brows that just do not stay in place, the reason I love it is because it holds every single brow in place all day long and you can create whatever shape you want to. I like to brush the hairs at the front of my brows upwards in order to make my brows looks fuller.

So to achieve this look, you take a spoolie (a clean mascara wand) and wet it slightly under a tap. Then using a clear soap, brush the spoolie all over the soap so that the brush is coated. Begin to brush your brows through and move them into the position you would like them to be in for the rest of the day! I tend to do my eye makeup while this dries and then apply makeup to my brows once I know it has completely dried. For me, this makes the whole process of doing my brows so much quicker, as you brush the brows into the position you want them in, I find I don't end up applying as much product to them!

What do you think of soap brows? Have you tried them?

Discovering Becca Cosmetics

Until about a month ago, I had never tried Becca Cosmetics. From having a look around Space Nk, I assumed they were all about light coverage and 'no makeup makeup' which is far from my type of makeup. However after searching online, I found that they did a full coverage foundation and actually focused on 'glowing skin' with their impressive range of highlighters in different forms, from powder to liquid to cream. The Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme foundation is a new love of mine, as the name suggests, it is full coverage. It's pretty thick in consistency and a little goes A LONG way, you barely need a pump of this to cover your whole face. Personally, I prefer applying this with a buffing brush, I don't really like applying foundation with my fingers and my Beauty Blender didn't really work too well with the thick consistency.

Then, during a lunch break browse, I impulsively picked up the Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in the shade Moonstone. I've been mixing it in with foundations but you can also apply it to your face before or after foundation, so it's definitely a versatile product. As I've mentioned in SO many blog posts recently, I've be obsessed with highlighters. I picked up the Shimmering Skin Perfecter Pressed in the shade Pearl, this looks completely white in the pan, however it is such a beautiful shade and I have worn it pretty much every day since I bought it! The final Becca product I've been trying is one I received as a gift with purchase, it's the Beach Tint in the shade Raspberry which can be used as a lip tint or as a cheek product. I tend to use it on my cheeks as I love the deep purple shade as it's perfect for creating autumnal makeup!

I've tried Morphe eyeshadows before and love how pigmented they are but also how super affordable they are. I am dying to try the 12 Colour Natural Beauty Palette, it has a mix of shimmery shades, along with matte ones too so it's the perfect every day palette. Recently I've been obsessed with highlighters, when I was in Space NK, I spotted the Laura Mercier Illuminator in the shade Devotion,  all the shades they do are so pretty but this shade is the most subtle which I tend to like in highlighters. Every time I walk to work, I walk past a Jigsaw store and had seen this beautiful rucksack in the window. I love the practicality of rucksacks when I'm going to work or university and I think this one is really feminine and classy, I also have a pink coat that this would go perfectly with! I recently bought a new phone and have been searching for a case for it, all my previous ones were from Casetify so I automatically went onto there to find a new one. I fell in love with this beautiful peony floral case, it's really pretty and I love that it's see-through so you can see the rose gold detail on the back of the phone! Finally, another highlighter! I keep hearing great things about the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops in Celestial
and as soon as I googled for swatches, I fell in love instantly! You can also mix in with your foundation to create a luminous and glowing base!

September Birchbox

Nuxe Prodigieux Shower Oil £10
ModelCO Highlighting Trio £14
Laura Mercier Foundation Primer £29
Amika Bombshell Blowout Spray £14.99
Starskin Eye Catcher £8.50
I was SO excited this month to open the box and find a sample of the Laura Mercier Primer, I have wanted to try this product for ages so I have been loving trialing it out! The consistency is very different to what I was expecting as it feels more like a moisturiser rather than a primer but that also means it makes my skin feel quite nourished while holding my makeup in place. This month I have been obsessed with highlighters so the Highlighting Trio from ModelCo was a nice addition, you get three creamy shades and I love the lightest shade to highlight my cheekbones. I also had super dry under eyes this month so was excited to try the Starskin Eye Catcher, it aims to brighten the area around your eye but also de-puff, I definitely needed something soothing on my skin!

Skincare Routine

I've recently finally got my skin under control, after having acne and dry skin for years. I've found a group of product which work brilliantly to keep my skin looking and feeling great! To remove my makeup I use the L'oreal Skin Perfection Micellar Water, this works perfectly to break down my makeup and I much prefer it to using makeup wipes as it's much more gentle on my skin. Next I cleanse my skin with the Eve Lom Cleanser, this is a cleansing balm which makes my skin feel SO clean and soft after I use it. I warm the product up between my fingers and then apply to my face before rinsing off using a muslin cloth. Once I've cleansed, I use a cotton pad and apply the Pixi Glow Tonic all over my face. This works incredibly at fading acne scarring and redness, making skin look glowing! Every week or so, I like to apply a mask to my face. After I fell in love with the Eve Lom Cleanser, I decided to purchase the Rescue Mask too. It makes my skin look so much healthier and I always love applying it! Unlike other masks, it doesn't make my skin feel super tight or uncomfortable and it's really gentle on my sensitive skin. At night I like to apply E45 Cream all over my skin, this is to nourish it and I always wake up with my skin feeling healthy and moisturised. Before applying my makeup I love using the Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream*, this is a light moisturiser however it makes my skin feel nourished and combats my super dry skin. It also makes my skin feel unbelievably soft after applying it and creates a great base before applying my makeup.

Nicky Clarke Supershine Straightener

I've been intrigued by hair straighteners with steam technology and have wanted to try them for ages! I was super excited to be offered to try the Nicky Clarke Supershine hair straighteners, they aim to transform dull and dehydrated hair, making it softer and glossier. The straightener has an inbuilt water reservoir which you fill up every couple of days and this is what creates the steam. The straightener aims to nourish hair which is definitely does, I noticed my hair feeling less frizzy and a lot smoother after using them. It took a little longer than my usual straighteners but created a style that looked a hundred times better and stayed straight all day. I love that you can adjust the heat setting between 130-235 degrees as it contains five different settings, I tend to use number 4 as my hair is pretty thick but if you have thin hair, a lower heat will work too. I have a huge fear of leaving my hair straighteners on when I leave the house but these automatically shut off after an hour, bonus! This straighteners are fab is you want silkier, healthier, softer and shinier hair, the steam technology really locks in moisture while also eliminating frizz! And even better, they are currently just £42 on Argos, reduced from £74.99!

My Current Cheek Combination

On a day to day basis, I used to rarely contour or highlight and I never wore blush. However lately I've been obsessed with wearing these three products together and I have completely fallen in love with each product. To begin with, I apply the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder. This is one of my favourite contour powders to use as it looks so natural, it's not too warm toned and it doesn't contain any glitter so it's amazing for creating natural looking shadows on the face. Next I apply blusher, I had owned Nars Orgasm before however I never really used it and eventually got rid of it. I recently received a tiny version of it and started using it again, it looks so pretty on the skin, I love how it makes you look like you're glowing! Finally I apply my highlight on the tops of my cheekbones and on the centre of my nose, I recently bought the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter in Pearl. Originally when I saw this, I thought it would be too white however it's such a beautiful highlight shade, I tend to not like really gold highlight so this is perfect for me!

This month's Birchbox is actually a BirchBAG! You receive a neoprene bag which comes in quite handy and my Dad has already taken it to use for himself! My favourite products from the box are the Phillip Kingsley One More Day Dry Shampoo, the Marcelle Eyeliner and the Merci Handy Hand Gel. I have already got so much use out of the Dry Shampoo, my hair barely lasts a day and a half without washing so being able to just spray some dry shampoo to make it feel fresher is so handy. I love this little travel size one as it's perfect for me to pop in my overnight bag if I'm away for a few days so I know I'm always going to have nice looking hair! The Marcelle Eyeliner is a fab addition to the bag, I received the shade Mulberry which is a beautiful plum colour, it is also waterproof so it is extremely long lasting as well as super soft too! My final favourite from the box is the Merci Handy Antibacterial Hand Gel, I love having hand gels in my bag as I like to use them when I'm out and about to ensure my hands are as clean as possible! This gel also hydrates and nourishes your hands too so it keeps them soft as well as getting rid of bacteria!

Current Favourites

Lately there have been a few products I've been absolutely obsessed with using, I recently rediscovered the Nars Sheer Glow Foundation after not using it for a while. I have fallen in love with it once again, I love the coverage of it, it makes my skin look flawless while not being too matte and not drying it out. I've been struggling with the dryness of my skin so finding a foundation that doesn't accentuate this is brilliant! I've almost used it up too, so will definitely be repurchasing! I wrote a blog post a while ago about the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer, I am loving this as it is absolutely perfect for under the eyes to brighten the area and work as a highlight! I had run out of my powder right before my holiday so I popped into Boots to pick a new one. I had heard good things about the Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot and I am loving it, it adds a lovely finish to my skin and keep its matte all day, again I will definitely be repurchasing this product! My final favourite is a product that has grown on me, when I bought the NYX Brow Pomade, I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about it however I'm now really enjoying using this. It's similar to Anastasia Dip Brow however I find this a better match to my brow colour as it's less red toned and looks a lot more natural on me.

Sleek Solstice Palette

Sleek Solstice Palette £9.99
Top L-R Ecliptic, Hemisphere, Subsolar, Equinox

I was aimlessly browsing the aisles in Boots when I stumbled across the Sleek section, my local store had only recently added Sleek so I was really excited to swatch a few things! I spotted the Solstice Highlighting Palette first as it is slightly different to other palettes, I wondered how the purple shade would work as a highlight but once I swatched it I was pleasantly surprised at how natural looking it was on the skin. The palette contains two baked powders, one pressed powder and a cream highlight. My two favourite shades are Subsolar and Hemisphere, I tend to use Subsolar when I want an everyday, natural looking highlight and then I use Hemisphere for something a little less subtle! I find these powders really easy to apply, really soft but still pigmented. Often times with highlighters I find them too chalky however these have a beautiful consistency to them! I think it's a brilliant palette if you like to mix up your highlight, it's such a unique mix of shades and at such an affordable price, it's definitely one I would recommend picking up on your next visit to Boots!
